• A BRIEF HISTORY OF MOULAY IDRISS II AL AZHAR


It goes without saying that the history of the Idrissid Dynasty and through their first comer to the Maghrib Moulay Idriss Ibn Abdullah Al Kamil is full of passion and awesome as it relates in all its reign some very emotional and high profile spiritual moments that most Historians omitted to describe.

True to say that the Mohammadian tradition of leadership in accounts detailing the imamate of Moulay Idriss Al-Azhar son of Moulay Idriss Al-Akbar ( Peace be upon them all)as such it was said that Moulay Idriss al-Azhar ("The Most Blossomed") was born on Monday the 13th of Rajab or the third 175/791 or 177/792. And it was related that he was born with the declaration of Shahada, i.e. ‘There is no God but Allah (La-ilaha illa-Allah) and the saying of al-Hawqala, i.e. ‘There is no Strength or Might except through God’ (La-hawl-a wa-la quwwata-illa-bi-Allah) written between his shoulder blades.


His father's servant Rachid Ibn Morchid took him under his wing, he memorized the Holy Quran by the age of eight, Rachid then taught him the sciences of Hadith, Islamic law, language, poetry, literature, horse riding, archery and other forms of the art of war and reaching the age of 11, he was ready to take up the responsibility of Imamate.

The Berbers mostly those of the ouraba tribe pledged Al-bay’ah or Allegiance to him on Friday 7th Rabee’ al-Awwal 188/804-5. The Imam addressed the people with a powerful speech calling them to God and His obedience. The exclusivity of Ahl Al Bayt’s claim to the Caliphate continued in the admonition of Moulay Idriss al-Azhar when he pledged their allegiance to his Imamate as exactly did he Father Moulay Idriss I on the 05th of February 789:

“Do not submit to anyone other than ourselves, for the establishment of God's truth as what you seek is only to found in us.”

Moreover and with this fresh responsibility, Moulay Idriss Al Azhar went on to consolidate the solid foundations laid down by his father and was to continue the good deeds done by his father despite the very little span of time.[/frame]
